Anna Petyarre (Pitjara) – Bush Yam Dreaming

$850.00

Anna is the daughter of Utopian artist Glory Ngale. Anna was born at Utopia Station, several hours northeast of Alice Springs in 1965. Anna comes from a large language group of extremely talented and strong female artists. Unlike so many of the most famous Utopian women artists – Anna was introduced to painting in a more western style at a young age.

Anna is best known for her Bush Yam Dreamings. She uses natural colours of the earth that are found in the Utopia region.

This painting depicts the underground root system of the bush yam plant found in Alhalkere country (Utopia). In the Bush Yam Dreaming, the aboriginal women perform ceremonies which include song and dance and pay homage to the spirit of the yam plant to ensure perpetual germination. The bush yam is an important food source for the Aboriginal people living in Central Australia.
