$3,500.00

SOLD

Abie Loy Kemarre was born in 1972 at Utopia Station approximately 250km north-east of Alice Springs.  She has been painting since 1994 under the guidance of her highly acclaimed Grandmother, Kathleen Petyarre.

This painting depicts ‘Bush Medicine Dreaming’, which refers to Yam leaves that are collected by the Aboriginal women, boiled, kangaroo resin added and mixed into a paste, which is used as bush medicine to treat a variety of ailments.

The women from the Eastern Amatyerre country, Utopia pay homage to the Bush Yam in their ceremonies and perform song and dance cycles.

Over time, Abie Loy Kemarre’s paintings further evolved through her skill as a talented colorist and during 2001/2002, Loy introduced a bolder, more abstract style in her series. Though the paintings are representational of her inherited Dreaming stories, they could be interpreted as abstract, expressionist and even post-modern.
